The International Liaison Office of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) at the University of Tokyo proudly announces the JEES Scholarship for the Promotion of Japanese Language Learning for the academic year 2024-2025. This prestigious scholarship, offering a monthly stipend of 50,000 yen from April 2024 to March 2025, supports GSFS master's or doctoral students aspiring to become Japanese language instructors. Eligible candidates must have passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test in 2023, hold "College Student" residential status, and ensure they do not receive other scholarships exceeding 600,000 yen during the period. This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities (Except Japanese).
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Requirements:
- Current Students: You must be actively enrolled (full-time) in a Master's or Doctoral program offered by the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) as of April 2024. Your goal should be to become a Japanese language instructor in the future. International students must hold a "College Student" visa.
- JLTT Certification: You must have successfully passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test (JLTT) administered by the JEES in the 2023 academic year.
- Scholarship Period: You must be available to receive the scholarship for the entire duration, from April 2024 to March 2025.
- No Conflicting Scholarships: You cannot be receiving any other scholarships offered by this foundation or exceeding 600,000 yen from scholarships from other organizations during the scholarship period (excluding loans and tuition waivers).
- Supervisor Recommendation: A recommendation letter from your academic supervisor is mandatory.
Main Qualifications:
- Program Enrollment: You must be enrolled full-time in a Master's or Doctoral program in a new field as of April 2024 and aspire to become a Japanese language instructor upon graduation. International students funding their studies themselves must possess a "Student" visa.
- JLTT Passed: You must have passed the Japanese Language Teaching Proficiency Test conducted by this organization in 2021.
- Award Duration: If chosen, you will receive the scholarship for the duration of your program (one year or more) starting from April 2024.
