Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is only open to UK Residents.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply for the Postgraduate Access Scholarship?
- UK Residents: You must be classified as "Home" for fee purposes in the UK.
- Coursework-based Master's Degree: You must be enrolled in a 180-credit postgraduate taught program (full-time or part-time). This typically translates to a one-year full-time program or a two-year part-time program. Even part-time programs exceeding two years are eligible. Start Date: Your program must begin in the academic year 2024-2025.
- Underrepresented Background: You must belong to a group with lower representation in the university's taught Master's programs (details below).
To be considered underrepresented, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Widening Participation Program: You successfully completed a program designed to increase access to higher education, such as the University of Birmingham's Birmingham Scholar scheme or a similar program from another university.
- Care Leaver: You were previously in local authority care for at least three months.
- Disability: You received Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) as an undergraduate or currently receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
- Black and Ethnic Minority Background: You identify as belonging to a Black or minority ethnic group.
- Bereaved or Estranged Parents: You are under 25 years old and have lost both parents (bereavement) or have no contact with them (estrangement) for at least a year, with no financial or physical support.
- Caring Responsibilities: You provide essential care for a family member or friend who relies on your support due to illness, disability, mental health issues, or substance abuse.
- Household Income: Your permanent residence has an annual household income of £42,875 or less.

- Round Two: Apply by July 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM UK time.
