The Non-Japanese Graduate Program (NJG), founded in 1981, provides scholarships to support graduate studies in Japan for non-Japanese women enrolled in PhD programs at Japanese universities. Since its inception, the NJG has benefited women students from over 50 countries.
Scholarships are awarded based on a candidate's academic merit, the quality and feasibility of her research proposal, and her potential to make a positive impact on society. The NJG places no restrictions on the field of study or the age of applicants.

Two Scholarships of ¥2.0 million will be awarded.
Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is open to femaleinternational students of all nationalities (Except Japan).
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the CWAJ Scholarship, applicants must:
- Identify as a woman.
- Be a non-Japanese national who does not have permanent residency in Japan.
- Be enrolled in a PhD degree program in a graduate school of a Japanese university during the entire scholarship period of April 2025 to March 2026.
- Reside in Japan from the time of application until the end of April 2025.
- Have no prior education in Japan beyond a bachelor's degree (excluding short-term language study).
- Not hold scholarships exceeding ¥1.5 million from any other scholarship program during the CWAJ Scholarship period. Financial aid and awards from the applicant's university may not be subject to this limitation.
- Be a first-time CWAJ scholarship recipient and not a CWAJ Member.
Ineligibility Criteria:
- Individuals currently studying or working abroad are ineligible. Applicants must be residing in Japan at the time of their application.
- Former recipients of CWAJ awards and members of CWAJ are not eligible.
Application Procedure
Scholarship Timeline
From July 2024- Registration for Application ID Number on website (Form A). Links to the other Application Forms will be available after registering for an Application ID Number.
- Deadline: Monday, October 7, 2024, 23:59 JST
- Application with required documents (Form B) and letters of references (2 x Form C) must be submitted online by the deadline.
