This scholarship is only open to international students from Brazil
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to highly qualified Brazilian postdoctoral researchers in any field.
- Postdocs: Must have completed your PhD within the last 4 years with publications in internationally reviewed journals/publishing houses.
- Experienced researchers: Must have completed your PhD within the last 12 years with a strong publication record in internationally reviewed journals/publishing houses.
Application Requirements:
- Brazilian citizenship or permanent residency (German nationals eligible if living/working in Brazil for at least 5 years with intent to stay).
- Resident in Brazil and lived outside Germany for at least 12 of the last 18 months.
- Confirmation from a German host institution that research facilities are available and a mentoring agreement.
Language skills:
- Natural sciences & engineering: Good German or English required.
- Humanities, social sciences & medicine: Good German required if crucial for research, otherwise good English suffices.
Application Procedure
Here's how to apply for the CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship 2024/2025:
Gather your documents:
- Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)
- Research outline (maximum 5 pages)
- Complete list of publications (following the sample list format)
- List of your most important publications (refer to the sample key publications list)
- Copies of your most important publications (if not in English, include acceptance letters, summaries, or translations)
- Doctoral certificate
- German language certificate (if required)
- (Optional) Publisher acceptance letters and summaries/translations for non-English key publications
Find a German host and get their documents:
- You'll need a statement from a researcher at a German academic institution confirming your research and that facilities are available.
- They will upload this directly to the application system.
Submit your application online:

- Only submit your application once you have all the documents, including those uploaded by your host.
Deadlines:
The application window is open now! You can submit your application materials any time between June 3, 2024 and November 29, 2024.
Selection decisions will be announced in May 2025. If successful, your fellowship could begin anywhere between September 2025 and May 2026.
Selection and Start Date:
- After submitting your application, both CAPES and the Humboldt Foundation will send you confirmation emails.
- A committee will review your application and select fellows.
- Results are usually announced in May of the year before your fellowship starts.
