Benefits
There are two main scholarship types offered:
1. Stipend and Fee Offset Scholarships: These provide the most comprehensive support.- Tuition Coverage: Full tuition fees are covered for up to two years for a Master's by Research and up to four years for a PhD.
- Living Stipend: You'll receive a living allowance of $37,000 per year (adjusted for part-time study) for up to two years (Master's) or 3.5 years (PhD). This allowance may increase annually and includes some paid leave for sickness, maternity, or parenting.
- Relocation Grant: To help with moving costs, you'll receive $2,000 if moving from within Australia (excluding Victoria) or $3,000 if moving from outside Australia.
- Health Insurance (International Students Only): If you're an international student requiring a visa, the scholarship will cover your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) single membership.
- Tuition Coverage: Similar to the stipend scholarship, full tuition fees are covered for up to two years for a Master's by Research and up to four years for a PhD.

Eligibility Criteria
- You must be applying for or already be enrolled in a Master's by Research or PhD program at the University of Melbourne.
How are Scholarships Awarded?
- Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset): This is automatically awarded to all domestic students admitted to a Master's by Research or PhD program.
- Graduate Research Scholarships (Stipend & Fee Offset): These are awarded to both domestic and international students based on academic merit.
- Selection is based on a point system considering:
- Your academic achievements in your most recent degree.
- Your potential for research success in your chosen field.
- Additional factors may include:
- Matching your previous degree level to the research program you're applying for.
- Relevant work experience in your field.
- Published research papers in academic journals.
- Specialized medical qualifications (if applicable).
- Original musical compositions (for creative research fields).
Application Procedure
New Students:
- Apply for your graduate research course by the deadline.
- If you meet the deadline, you'll be automatically considered for scholarships.
- You'll be notified within 10 business days that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
Deferred Students:
Current Students:
- If you're already enrolled in a graduate research course and want to be considered for a scholarship next year, submit an online application by October 31st.
- You'll be notified within 10 business days that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
When Will I Find Out?
- Domestic students: You'll receive information about the Research Training Program Scholarship (fee offset) with your course offer.
- Graduate Research Scholarships (with stipend and fee offset): Offers are made separately, but around the same time as course offers.
