Benefits

  • a living allowance of approximately $30,600 per annum for full time students (pro-rata for part time students) paid as a stipend. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave
  • awarded for three years, with an option to apply for a six-month extension after three years
  • relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

    • have achieved a minimum weighted average of 80% in the final year subjects, or (University of Melbourne) equivalent, with a minimum result of 80% for the research component
    • have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought
    • have applied for admission to a PhD degree but not be currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne on a topic taught within the Asia Institute
The Asia Institute PhD Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit. Eligible applicants are automatically considered, scored and ranked according to their academic achievement of their completed tertiary degrees, published articles, writing samples, research proposal, language and analytical skills relevant to their proposed field of study, and other factors relevant to the proposed research, such as professional experience.
