URIS Fellowships 2026 at the University of Basel Switzerland

Description

The University of Basel, through the initiative ‘Ukrainian Research in Switzerland’ (URIS), is inviting applications for the prestigious URIS Fellowships 2026. These fellowships offer an exceptional opportunity for researchers specialising in Ukrainian studies to spend six months at one of Switzerland's leading universities.

Fellowship Details

The URIS Fellowships are available for two semesters:

  1. Spring Semester: January–June 2026
  2. Autumn Semester: July–December 2026

During this period, fellows will conduct research and teach a Ukraine-related course at the University of Basel. The fellowship aims to advance Ukrainian expertise in Switzerland, support emerging scholars, and strengthen the international networks of Ukraine-focused research.

URIS Fellowships 2026 at the University of Basel Switzerland is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at University of Basel.

Benefits

The URIS Fellowship offers a monthly stipend of CHF 4,000. Additional benefits include:

  1. Reimbursement for visa fees, accident and health insurance.
  2. One round trip from the home country to Basel.
  3. A half-price travel subscription for the Swiss Federal Railways.
  4. Reimbursement for work-related travel within Switzerland.
  5. A shared office space at the University of Basel with full access to digital infrastructure.


Eligibility Criteria

The URIS initiative is seeking applications from internationally recognized researchers who:

  1. Hold a university degree and a Ph.D. in humanities, cultural studies, or social sciences.
  2. Have teaching experience and are willing to conduct a one-semester course (1.5 hours per week) in English or German.
  3. Are actively engaged in a research project related to Ukrainian history, society, politics, or culture.

  1. Statement of purpose outlining research and teaching experience.
  2. Curriculum vitae with a list of publications.
  3. Copies of university degree and Ph.D. certificates.
  4. Proof of proficiency in English or German (if applicable).
  5. A project outline (maximum 3 pages).
  6. Concept for a one-semester course (maximum 2 pages).
