Eligible Nationalities

Eligibility Criteria

- Be a national of an ADB borrowing member country and Japanese ODA scholarship-eligible country.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree with an outstanding academic record.
- Have at least two years of professional work experience after graduation.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English (oral and written).
- Be no more than 35 years old at the time of application.
- Be in good health.
- Commit to returning and working in their home country for at least two years after completing the program.
Additionally, applicants must not:
- Hold dual citizenship in a developed country.
- Be staff, consultants, or close relatives of ADB personnel.
- Already be enrolled in a graduate program or have studied abroad previously.
Selection Criteria
Selection is highly competitive and considers:
- Academic excellence and professional experience.
- Financial need, with preference for candidates with lesser financial capacity.
- Priority for women candidates and those who have not studied abroad before.
- The relevance of the proposed field of study to ADB’s operational priorities and Japan’s development goals.
