5 PhD Scholarships in Management, Finance and Accounting in agreement at University Carlo Cattaneo in Italy 2024-2025
University Carlo Cattaneo is inviting Italian and non-Italian students to apply for three-year PhD Scholarships. Five available positions to participate in the PhD Program in Management, Finance and Accounting in agreement for 2024-2025 academic year, with exemption from admission and attendance fees in accordance with the provisions of Ministerial Decree no. 630 of 24 April 2024, financed by the PNRR, which allocates PNRR funding (Mission 4, component 2, investment 3.3 - Introduction of innovative doctoral programs that meet the innovation needs of companies and promote companies’ recruitment of researchers) and by partner companies.
The aim of the scholarship is to prepare students for primarily research-oriented careers in academia, but also for multinational companies, public and private organizations, and financial institutions, so that they can interpret business phenomena in an integrated way. It combines approaches from management engineering and business economics, offering unique skills thanks to the support of selected partner companies to deepen specific research topics.
The receiving of the title “Doctor of Research in Management, Finance and Accounting” certifies the clearly established ability to:
- Study business phenomena and market dynamics with cutting-edge and versatile methodological tools in order to better understand their complexity.
- Make use of robust analytical tools, either alternatively or jointly with the economic-financial, managerial, and engineering management areas in order to obtain research results that are academically rigorous and professionally relevant.
- Identify innovative research topics and develop original results that are of interest to the scientific and professional communities.

Available Subjects
The scholarship is tied to the following research themes:
- How the adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), such as ChatGPT, influences work practices and organizational roles in businesses, contributing to their competitiveness.
- Reviewing their supply chain and sales processes in the light of new opportunities offered by AI in SMEs, particularly with regard to product configuration, inventory management, new sales and market activities.
- Development of architectures and models for interoperability between medical systems, with the aim of improving the management of patient information assets and optimizing synergies between production departments and administrative processes.
- Technology solutions to support processes in healthcare: monitoring, indicators and simulation for patient logistics and space and resource management.
- Performance Measurement and Data Management in Sustainability: a new sustainability strategy dashboard in the Business Intelligence system and non-financial reporting in preparation for CSRD.
Benefits
Scholarship Award:
The current amount of the scholarship is € 20,400.00 yearly, before social security and health insurance contributions, to be paid by the recipient. Extra financial assistance will be provided for the research activities abroad.

Eligible Nationalities
Italian and non-Italian students are eligible for the scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are received from candidates who hold a Laurea Magistrale or equivalent foreign academic degree (Master of Arts, Master of Sciences) with a minimum grade of 95/110, or an equivalent foreign qualification with a minimum grade of 86/100, or who expects to achieve such a qualification by 31 October 2024 in the following areas:
- Economics, Management
- Finance, Industrial Engineering
- Public Administrations, Public Communication
- Economics for the Environment and Culture
- Applications from candidates holding degrees in areas other than those listed above, but whose education and experience demonstrate knowledge of the subjects of the Program will be considered and assessed by the Admission Panel.

1. Entrance Requirement:
- Any person who holds a Master’s degree or equivalent foreign qualification in the following areas: Economics, Management, Finance, Industrial Engineering, Public Administrations, Public Communication, Economics for the Environment and Culture can apply. The overall score of the candidate is determined as follows:
- up to a maximum of 10 points.
- up to a maximum of 15 points.
- up to a maximum of 20 points.
- Candidates are deemed suitable for admission to the Program if they achieve a score of at least 30/45 points, with criteria
- having at least 7.
- having at least 10 points.
- having at last 14 points, respectively. Offers of financial support are made following the order of this rank.
2. Test Requirement
SAT, GRE or GMAT is required.
3. English Language Requirement
- TOEFLS/IELTS Score is Required
- Fluent level of English is required. It can be also assessed during the oral exam. The oral exam will be held at the University or remotely via the web (MsTeams)
Selection Criteria:
Candidates are selected on the basis of their documented qualifications and in accordance with the following three criteria:
- Having the necessary knowledge and expertise on the Program’s topics.
- Aptitude for scientific research and coherence between scientific background and PhD Program main subjects, the originality and rigor of research project presented
- Competence in discussing and interpreting phenomena in the economic, managerial, financial or engineering fields, also expressed in quantitative form, as well as the linguistic competence necessary to participate profitably in the activities of the PhD Program.

- Copy (both sides), signed, of a valid personal identity document
- Copy (both sides) of personal tax code (if available)
- Diploma Supplement or Degree Certificate (or self-certification if the title has been obtained in Italy) stating the name of the University where obtained, official study duration, exams passed, ECTS and related scientific areas, final score and related grading scales. If the degree is yet to be obtained, average score of the exams already taken and related grading scales.
- Curriculum vitae, in Italian or English
- Two reference letters, in Italian or English, with handwritten signature, completed according to the format published on the website
- International test score (GMAT, GRE, or other equivalent internationally recognized test), with proof of the score (if available)
- Internationally recognized language certifications, with proof of the score (if available)
- List of publications of academic/scientific relevance, if applicable, and/or any other titles, qualifications or information useful to assess the applicant’s aptitude for research
- A short statement of purpose written according to the format shown and available on the website (800 words maximum, including spaces but not including bibliography and figures) concerning an individual presentation of the candidate and the candidate's motivation for pursuing the PhD.
- An illustrative paper on the development of PhD research on a research topic of the candidate's choice to be prepared in accordance with the instructions published at https://www.liuc.it/corsi-di-studio/phd-program/management-finance-and-accounting/.

- In addition, applicants in possession of an academic qualification obtained at a foreign university should also attach documentation useful to enable the Faculty Board to declare the equivalence, that is to say:

For applicants having obtained their diploma from a NON EU country:
- Legalized copy of original Degree or Master Degree diploma with translation if not in English
and/or
- Declaration of Value issued by the Italian Embassy or Consulate or Italian Cultural Institute responsible for the geographical area of the city where university degree was obtained
and/or
- Declaration of Equivalence issued by an Italian University.
If, at the time of submission, applicants do not yet have the relative Declaration of Value or Declaration of Equivalence, the Admission Committee shall decide on the validity of the diploma according to the applicable regulations in force in Italy and in the country in which the diploma was awarded and to international agreements regarding the recognition of qualifications for continuing study, for the sole purpose of admission to the course.
Declaration of Value is not needed for titles obtained in EU.

- the commitment to attend, if admitted, the Program in the manner prescribed in the Regulations of the Program and to participate in the activities planned for PhD candidates within the University;
- awareness that at any time during the application process, and even after the start of the Program, the Administration may check the authenticity of the statements made and require the submission of original documents, having the right at all times, with sound reason, to exclude applicants from the selection process or from the Program, due to lack of fulfilment of requirements established by this call.
- to be aware of the penalties that may be incurred in the case of false declarations or data content not corresponding to the truth, according to Art. 76 of the DPR, 28 December 2000, no. 445.
