Description

The Taiwan Fellowship 2025 program is now open for applications. Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), this prestigious fellowship invites scholars and researchers from around the world to conduct academic research at Taiwanese universities, colleges, and research institutions.

If your academic focus lies in humanities, social sciences, Sinology, Taiwan studies, cross-strait relations, or Asia-Pacific regional studies, this opportunity offers funded support to pursue your research while living in Taiwan.

Degree Level

Taiwan Government Fellowship 2025 (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at Taiwan Universities.

Benefits

Selected scholars will receive:

  1. Monthly Stipend:
  2. NT$60,000 (approx. USD 1,850) for professors, associate professors, research fellows.
  3. NT$50,000 (approx. USD 1,540) for assistant professors, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students.
  4. Travel Subsidy:
  5. A round-trip economy-class airfare subsidy (up to NT$35,000 or around USD 1,080) to Taiwan.
  6. Academic Networking:
  7. Participation in seminars, workshops, and academic activities organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Eligible Nationalities

This fellowship is open to applicants of all nationalities except Taiwanese.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

Eligible candidates for the Taiwan Fellowship 2025 include:

  1. Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors
  2. Postdoctoral Researchers
  3. Doctoral Candidates or Doctoral Program Students
  4. Research Fellows or Associate Research Fellows at overseas academic institutions

Applicants must be foreign nationals (non-Taiwan citizens) and not currently residing, studying, or conducting research in Taiwan.

The research focus must relate to:

  1. Taiwan
  2. Cross-strait relations
  3. Mainland China studies
  4. Asia-Pacific regional issues
  5. Sinology (Chinese language, culture, history studies)

Application Procedure

Required Documents for Application

Applicants must submit:

  1. Online application form (to be completed and printed from Taiwan Fellowship Portal)
  2. Updated CV including a list of publications
  3. Detailed research proposal (approximately 3 pages)
  4. Two letters of recommendation (or one recommendation letter and one letter of consent from your institution's chief administrator)

Important Regulations for Recipients

  1. The research topic must match the approved proposal; changes require prior MOFA approval.
  2. Fellows must submit a final research report (minimum 20 pages) within three months of completing the fellowship.
  3. Fellows may not accept any other Taiwanese government scholarships during the fellowship.
  4. Part-time employment during the fellowship is prohibited without MOFA's consent.
  5. Compliance with the laws of Taiwan is mandatory. Fellowship may be revoked in cases of legal violations or serious misconduct.
  6. All publications and reports must acknowledge the support of the Taiwan Fellowship.
