Swansea University
is proud to announce the Swansea University International Postgraduate Research Excellence Scholarship (SUIPRES) for the academic year 2024. This prestigious scholarship is open to international PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants in the Humanities and Social Sciences who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. The scholarship covers the difference between the International and Home tuition fee rates for the duration of the programme, with successful candidates paying fees aligned with the UK rate, currently £4,786 for 2024/25. Eligible fields include Ancient History, Applied Linguistics, Classics, Development Studies, Egyptology, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Social Policy, and Sociology. Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a 1st class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification) and/or a Distinction in a UK master's degree (or international equivalent), and be classified as an international student.

Funding

  • Tuition Fee Coverage: The SUIPRES Scholarship covers the difference between international and UK tuition fees for the duration of your PhD or Professional Doctorate program. Successful recipients will pay the UK tuition fee rate each year. For 2024/25, this is £4,786, with annual increases aligned to UKRI regulations (typically 3%).
  • Scholarship Application: The scholarship amount will be deducted directly from your tuition fees. However, applicants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the remaining tuition fees and living expenses throughout their program.

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be accepted into an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate program at Swansea University. Eligible programs within Humanities and Social Sciences include:

  1. Ancient History, PhD
  2. Applied Linguistics, PhD
  3. Classics, PhD
  4. Development Studies, PhD
  5. Egyptology, PhD
  6. Philosophy, PhD
  7. Politics and International Relations, PhD
  8. Social Policy, PhD
  9. Sociology, PhD
  • Hold or be expected to obtain a first-class or upper second-class UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification), and/or a Distinction in a UK master's degree (or international equivalent).
  • Be classified as an international student and liable to pay Swansea University's international tuition fees.
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic merit beyond the minimum entry requirements as part of the application for their chosen program.

Ineligibility

  • Current PhD or Professional Doctorate students (including returning or transfer students) are not eligible.
  • Master's level students are not eligible.
  • Candidates fully sponsored by a third party are not eligible.

Note: This scholarship is competitive, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee funding.

Step 4: Scholarship Notification

  • You will be notified about the award decision (granted or not) along with your program offer letter.
