Scholarship Amounts and Stay Logistics
The scholarship amount depends on who you are and your experience level:
- University Students (Master's Level): 620 EUR per month
- PhD Students: 1025.50 EUR per month
- University Teachers/Researchers/Artists:
- Without PhD and less than 4 years experience: 1025.50 EUR per month
- With PhD and less than 10 years experience: 1370 EUR per month
- With PhD and more than 10 years experience: 1470 EUR per month
Note: Only relevant work experience is considered up to the application deadline. PhD studies count as experience, but for a maximum of 6 years.
The scholarship is meant to cover your living costs in Slovakia, including food and accommodation.
Your host institution can help you find accommodation and with formalities for entering and staying in Slovakia. You can also handle this yourself.
Medical Examination for Long Stays
Scholarship holders staying longer than 90 days and coming from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland might need a temporary residence permit. This requires a medical exam to prove you don't have any diseases that could be a public health risk. The scholarship program will reimburse the exam cost (up to €250) upon providing receipts.
Travel Grant
Students and PhD students can apply for a travel allowance on top of the scholarship. This is a one-time payment based on the distance between your home and your stay in Slovakia. You can find a distance calculator on the program website to estimate the amount.
Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply for the National Scholarship Programme of Slovakia?
- Master's students: Must be enrolled outside Slovakia, have completed at least 2.5 years of studies, and be accepted for a mobility program at a Slovakian university (1-2 semesters or 1-3 trimesters).
- PhD students: Must be studying outside Slovakia and be accepted for a research stay at a qualified Slovakian institution (1-10 months).
- University teachers/researchers/artists: Must be invited by a qualified research institution in Slovakia for a teaching/research/artistic stay (1-10 months).
Note: You cannot be a citizen of Slovakia and must wait at least 2 years to reapply after receiving a scholarship.
Application Procedure
- Submit all the necessary documents including your CV, transcripts, motivational letter, detailed study plan and 2 recommendation letter.

Scholarship applications are submitted online at www.scholarships.sk. Online application system is opened at least 6 weeks prior to the application deadline. Applications can be filled in only in case that the online application system has already been opened.
