Financial Benefits
- OAS Supplementary Grant: The OAS will provide a one-time payment of USD 2,000 to help cover tuition and fees during the first year of the scholarship program.
- UTEP Tuition Waivers: UTEP will also offer available tuition waivers to scholarship recipients, further reducing the cost of education.
- Expenses Not Covered
It's important to remember that the scholarship does not cover all expenses. The following costs are the sole responsibility of the scholarship recipient:
- Remaining Tuition and Fees: Any portion of tuition and fees not covered by the OAS grant or UTEP waivers.
- Application Fee: The fee required to apply to UTEP.
- Health Insurance: Health insurance coverage is not included in the scholarship.
- Housing and Food: Costs associated with housing and meals.
- Books and Supplies: Expenses for textbooks, notebooks, and other academic materials.
- Additional Fees: Any other fees not specifically covered by the OAS-UTEP PAEC Scholarship.
Eligible Nationalities
- Citizenship or Residency: You must hold a passport from or be a legal resident of one of the following Organization of American States (OAS) member countries:
Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
- Special Note for Argentina: If you are a resident of Argentina, you will need to complete an additional form (available here) and submit it to Argentina's National Liaison Office (ONE).
Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled at UTEP: You must be either admitted for the upcoming Fall 2024 semester or already registered as a student at UTEP.
- International Student Status: You must be classified as an international student at UTEP.
Who Cannot Apply?
The following individuals are not eligible for this scholarship:
- Current OAS Scholarship Holders: If you are already receiving a scholarship from the OAS, you cannot apply for this additional scholarship.
- OAS Staff and Family: Staff members of the General Secretariat of the OAS (GS/OAS) and their immediate family members, along with consultants for the GS/OAS, are not eligible.
- Permanent OAS Staff and Family: Permanent staff members of the OAS and their immediate family members are also ineligible for this scholarship.
Application Procedure
There are two main steps involved in applying for the OAS-UTEP PAEC Scholarship:
1. Admission to UTEP:
- To be eligible for the scholarship, you must first secure admission to a program of study at UTEP starting in Fall 2024.
- Make sure to follow the standard UTEP admission process.
2. Scholarship Application:
- Once you've been admitted to UTEP for Fall 2024, you'll automatically be considered for the OAS-UTEP PAEC Scholarship. No separate application is needed.
- You'll need to submit all the required supporting documents as part of the UTEP admission process.
Selection Process:
A scholarship review committee will evaluate applicants based on the following criteria:
- Geographic Distribution: The committee will consider the needs of OAS member states based on the Human Development Index by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This ensures the scholarship benefits a diverse range of countries.
