The Jung Foundation for Science and Research is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Jung Career Advancement Award 2025. This prestigious award, designed to support the next generation of medical professionals, offers a substantial grant of €210,000 to fund a research project over a three-year period.
The award is targeted at medical professionals who have completed a minimum of two years of scientific research, preferably abroad, and are returning to Germany to complete their residency training. The selected research must be conducted at a German academic hospital. Importantly, recipients of the award will be provided with protected time from clinical duties for at least one year, ensuring a focus on their research endeavors.

Jung Career Advancement Award:
The Jung Career Advancement Award offers a grant of €210,000 to support a three-year research project. Funds must be used in accordance with the guidelines of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
Disbursement:
- The grant is disbursed in two equal installments.
- The second installment is contingent upon a positive review of an interim report by the Scientific Advisory Board.
- Payment for the second installment can be requested at least 18 months after the project's start, but no later than 5 years.
Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is open to students of all nationalities.Eligibility Criteria
Requirements:
- Medical Professionals: Applicants must have completed at least two years of scientific research, preferably abroad.
- Scientific Accomplishment: Candidates should have a documented record of scientific achievements.
- Return to Germany: Applicants must be returning to Germany to complete their residency training.
- Host Institution: The work will be carried out at a German academic hospital.
- Clinical Duties: Upon receiving the award, the recipient will be relieved of clinical duties for at least one year.
- Protected Time: Following the initial year, the recipient will have intermittent protected time for research for a further two years combined.
- Host Institution Selection: Applicants are not required to specify a host institution at the time of application. The institution will be chosen in consultation with the Jung Foundation after receiving the award.
Selection Procedure:
- Scientific Advisory Board: The Scientific Advisory Board of the Jung Foundation for Science and Research will select candidates.
- Final Selection Round: A maximum of three candidates will be invited to an in-person interview in Hamburg.

- Optional: If applicable, provide a PDF certificate of residency training in a clinical subject, such as clinical microbiology, laboratory medicine, or pathology. (Preclinical or theoretical subjects like epidemiology, pharmacology, and immunology are not eligible.)
