Benefits
During your studies at CERN, you will receive the following:
- An initial six-month contract, extendable for up to three years. This total period of up to 36 months can be spread over four years to accommodate up to 12 months of unpaid leave for research at your home university.
- A monthly stipend of 3,868 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
- A travel allowance.
- Additional allowances for married students and parents.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage (with a deduction from your stipend).
- 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
Please note that the maximum contract duration of three years does not impose a deadline for PhD completion.
Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is open to international students from CERN Member or Associate Member State.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Be currently enrolled in or about to begin a doctoral program at a university.
- Undertake research at CERN that constitutes all or part of the doctoral thesis required by the applicant's university. The degree will be awarded by the university, and academic arrangements will be established between the university and CERN supervisors.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English or French.

- Official academic transcript indicating your grades. Ensure the document is unprotected for easy access.
- A mandatory reference letter from a university professor. An optional second reference from a previous internship is welcome.
