The Académie de Recherche et d'Enseignement Supérieur (ARES) is pleased to announce the opening of applications
for its prestigious scholarships for the academic year 2025-2026. These scholarships provide an exceptional opportunity for nationals of ARES partner countries who hold a higher education degree and possess relevant professional experience to deepen their expertise in development-related topics.

Degree Level

Belgium Government ARES Scholarship 2025-26 for Bachelor, Masters and Continuing Education in Belgium (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Bachelor 11, Masters level programs at Belgium Universities.

Eligible candidates are invited to apply for the following programs:

  • A one-year advanced bachelor’s or master’s degree program
  • A 2-to-6-month continuing education program
  • Both programs will be hosted by higher education institutions within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium, renowned for their academic excellence and international focus.

Benefits

The scholarship covers:

  • International travel costs.
  • A subsistence stipend.
  • Special expenses related to visa applications (applicable only to bachelor's and specialized master's degrees).
  • Tuition fees (applicable only to bachelor's and specialized master's degrees).
  • Indirect mission expenses (applicable only to continuing education).
  • Insurance coverage.

Eligible Nationalities

This scholarship is open to international students from the following countries:

  • In Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
  • In South America and the Caribbean: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru.
  • Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam.
  • In Asia: Palestinian territory.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible candidates must:

  • Be a citizen of one of the 31 eligible countries (listed above) and currently reside and work there.
  • Hold either:A degree equivalent to a 2nd cycle diploma (300 ECTS credits) from a Belgian university, applicable for specialized master's and continuing education courses.
  • A degree equivalent to a 1st cycle diploma (180 ECTS credits) from Belgian higher education, suitable for specialization baccalaureates.
  • Have at least two years of relevant professional experience in a country that partners with ARES.

Application Procedure

To apply online via the GIRAF platform, follow these steps:

  • Create or Access Your Giraf Account: If you don't already have a Giraf account, you'll need to create one. If you already have an account that's been validated by ARES, you can use it.
  • Access the Application Form: Navigate to the application form by selecting "Application for international training" and then going to "My tasks" followed by "Competitive calls."
  • Complete the Form: Fill out the application form. You can save your progress and return to complete it later. The form can be accessed through "Competitive calls" under "My tasks."
  • Submit Your Application: Once your application is complete, submit it by clicking on "Submit my application." After submission, you can review your file in the "My submitted files" section. Note that once submitted, the application cannot be modified.
