Belgium 2014 PhD in Medical Sciences Scholarships
Stroke is the third most frequent cause of mortality after ischemic heart disease and cancer, and the leading cause of disability in adults. The current main challenge is to develop a serial blood analysis and/or a panel of blood tests, which improve the diagnostic certainty of stroke, allow to determine stroke onset, and discriminate between ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and stroke mimics.
During the past decade, serum biomarkers have gained importance in this field, as they are potentially useful in diagnosis, risk-stratification, prognostication, treatment decision and measurement of therapeutic efficacy. However, thus far no biomarker has been suitably successful in a clinical setting.
This project aims to evaluate the diagnostic potential of a biomarker panel, at first in an experimental model and later on in a clinical setting.
Job profile
- Master degree (or graduation in 2014) in medical sciences, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences or veterinary sciences
- You are a motivated and flexible team player with good communication skills
- Excellent study results (great distinction)
